VELS Group of Institutions was established in 1992 with the aim of transforming an individual into a complete man with character and ability committed to national service and development. VELS Group was founded by Dr. Ishari K. Ganesh, M. Com., M.B.A, M.L., Ph.D., a visionary and an eminent educationist, in fond memory of his father Shri. Isari Velan, the Former Deputy Minister in the popular Government of Dr. MGR. The main motive of VELS Group of Institutions is to take education to the humble thresholds of first generation learners and weaker sections of the society.

The 23-year-old Vels Group, having gained rich experience in managing many paramedical institutions namely Vels College of Pharmacy (1992); Vels College of Physiotherapy (1993); Venkateswara Nursing College (2006) and Vels School of Nursing (2007), has extended its sphere of activity by starting Dental Science Programme. Sri Venkateswara Dental College and Hospital has been established under the Educational and Charitable Trust - Vels Institute of Science, Technology and Advanced Studies in 2007.
